Koi Fish

A haiku. Are they scared, for they are not delicious?

I saw koi fish and thought—

will they be sacred, ornamental,

if they tasted umami-delicious!

Note: We humans are hypocrites. If something is delicious, we often don’t care what or which way it was made from.

Bee-made honey, civet-cat coffee, or the poison-yielding fugu fish— we consume these without question.

Koi are called sacred and not eaten. They look like carps, yet are earthy and sweet. Is that the reason koi are not deemed edible and instead revered?

If they were umami-tasting delicious, would they not end up on a platter too? Many other lovely creatures end up there— innocent calves, and lambs as well—right?

I just let this be food for thought.

Lol, humans would consume anything if it's tasty. Loved this!
