King of the Abyss

You made sure to feed the gulls.

They found me, cold and ghostly

on the shoreline we named “Forever

and let me reign over their unforgetting flock.

~

I was crowned in sea urchins.

We waged war on ceaseless tides

and on nights of conquest, I chanted

myths of Muses who finally found belonging.

~

I am no siren calling,

no Heart of Sea, beating drum.

Sunset, I'll whisper the anthem of

our dysfunction, “Queen of Gulls, King of the Abyss.”

~

Soon, my fleet will discover

your soul, tempest bared, hungry,

longing. Yet, if I’m lost within deep

waters, together, we will always feed the gulls.
