Kaleidoscopic Distractions

i am an embezzler of embellishments

and i've come for many things

you won’t even know i'm there

not until you feel the sting

i am both the puppet and the master

tied up in oh so many strings

each string a knot of many riddles

but they are not what i bring

i bring no slick or tricky revelations

i am completely bereft of tense situations

no hearty or heady salutations

no ill will or flaccid flirtations

i come bearing bent light

and other pale attractions

i bring you lost in a mirror maze

and other kaleidoscopic distractions

i bring the whispers from the dream

and other secrets from the dark

but i bear not only the gift of the flame

i bring you the spark

i'm selling shadows

in the light

i'm hiding darkness

in the night

i have a different poster

for the same freak show

and other things

no one needs to know

i am the cause and the effect

and this maw is of my creation

wild horses and all that
