Grey, grey every day
Oh when will spring begin?
It’s May it should be here
Yet winter’s clinging on I fear
I yearn for sun and the fun
That come with brighter yellow days
In all their many glorious ways!
I can’t garden in the cold
For I am getting far too old
My eyes cloud up and tears appear
I don’t enjoy, there’s no pleasure, Oh dear
I pray the sky, it will turn blue
Then I can do all I need to do!
There’s digging to be done
Seeds need sowing
The grass needs mowing
The hedge need trimming
The greenhouse cleaning
And, when signs of frost are gone
I’ve bedding plants that need to be done
Reds and purple, yellows and blues
Beyond the carpet of lush green
I want the world to view the scene!
When it’s golden warm, I feel better
And my own grey clouds they disappear
Lighter, brighter is how I feel
No longer am I down at heel
I strip my Tee as I feel hot
Soothing rays that I had forgot
Bronze my body, though not a lot
One must be careful, not too much!
Colours changing all around
Blossom of Pink and some of white
Give passers by a wonderful sight
The trees grow greener day by day
Their trunks are coloured in muted brown
To help show off their emerald crown
Whilst far below in the ruddy soil
Nature’s creatures join the ball
There’s much to be done before the fall
Each has a colour that is unique
Many end up in the Blackbirds beak!
I could go on but what a chore
I would not wish to be a bore
If it’s a kaleidoscope you want to see
Come, spend an hour in the garden with me!
