Just Walk Away

A Life of Lies

By Dan R FowlerPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

Just Walk Away

The years have held a special secret for many,

Of crooked roads, dirt devils swirling, danger plenty.

But it’s upon these roads now lost in time,

That memories were made some harsh, some kind.

Tales of sorrows unbearable and daunting,

Crippled my heart and soul they’re still haunting.

Words spoken without sincerity having been splashed,

Upon the landscape lacking promises they crashed.

It’s been decades but the words still linger,

They wash over me like words for a singer.

There were promises that no one could keep,

And should’ve been swept away without a peep.

Slanderous words spilled upon the ground,

Not unlike thousands before that I’ve found.

Tear my soul apart, rip it from my being,

It is far better to know the truth that was fleeing.

In shadow’s closets, rooms of one’s mind,

A solitary life has walked as if it were blind.

“Are you there?” life calls out repeatedly,

But the night has been killed by lies undoubtedly.

So the world says to forget, to live, to build anew,

But the scares, the cuts, the emptiness is true.

To never take a chance again we’ve often promised,

Only to find ourselves crushed, constantly admonished.

Leave me to my thoughts those I can’t forget,

For I’m imprisoned by them no key I will get.

These waves that flood over me from time to time,

Can only be scraped away by a hand that’s divine.

It’s a prayer that in the future my years ahead,

May mercy be handed to me, not something I dread.

For to remain within this valley of shredded truth,

Is to be sliced apart and my neck placed in a noose.
