Sometimes A date on a calendar is not just a day
And sometimes Nobody knows of the significance held
But there is underneath a Notion of it being quite the Phoenix.
Incredulous that the memories barge back in bringing such power
And for just that moment re-awaken the lowly Victim inside of me
Even though I have long fought back and faced that enemy and do stand.
Comforting myself, reminding myself, a Reaction is not a response
And I am the definition of Strong instead
A date is just a date, and it yields no chains I cannot remove.
Today I will, with purpose, Reach for further strength. How?
I will forgive You, forgive myself, and make the day about something else!
For the "Real Poetic" challenge:
Forgiveness is such a powerful tool we all have within our reach. When used, it is so effective. My hopes are that any readers I have will choose to use that tool, if possible.

This was excellent Shirley- searing, determined, and raw. I particularly liked “A date is just a date, and it yields no chains I cannot remove.” as a defiant and firm reminder that we can control our thoughts and actions.
Powerful!
Such a fun way to do an acrostic style poem
I believe 'forgiveness' is not easily given. This is beautifully crafted Shirley. Strikes a deep cord in the reader.
This was extremely powerful! Loved this so much!
Very powerful last line! Great variation on an acrostic!
Making the day about something else is a genius finale to a terrible conundrum, Shirley. Good luck in the challenge!
Clever stretching of the rules!
