Just Knock
Written for the "Things You Can’t Say Out Loud" challenge.

There isn’t much
I cannot say,
but
you found the one thing anyway.
You showered me
in gold
and sparkles.
Fed me oysters with champagne.
Promised me
the sun,
the moon.
When clearly
it was way too soon.
You gave me
everything
and all
that you had
always been longing for.
I told you
once
and twice
and more –
my love is quieter than yours.
I want
the whispers.
Please –
don’t yell.
Just
a quiet knock,
no doorbell.
I dim the lights,
hug goodbye.
Just kiss me.
Slowly.
Don’t ask why.
You looked at me
and seemed to care.
Seemed to truly understand.
I take the blame –
I really do –
once again
I let you fool me
into thinking
things will change.
My disappointment,
loud
and wide.
Again
you’d pushed my wish aside.
Your words were blaring,
seemed as if
the Caps Lock
and Ctrl B were hit.
'I LOVE YOU'
written in the sky
was your last and final try.
I looked at you
and realized –
I love me, too.
And left for good.

Giving you everything THEY want, not what YOU want. I like your word choice in this poem - feels careful and intended. I read this last night and it left me pondering (I couldn't even think of a comment, haha). Still not sure what to say now, but I'm so glad you chose yourself! Always, love yourself. 💛
I'm so sorry if I have misunderstood your poem, but to me, this seemed like two people who have completely different love languages and doesn't seem to get it even when told. Loved your poem!
