It’s funny how we laugh it off,
That moment when the truth gets soft—
A line too close, a slip too real,
“Just kidding,” and it’s no big deal.
A little dig, a secret sting,
Wrapped in a joke to hide the thing.
But isn’t it strange, if you rewind,
How “just kidding” speaks the mind?
A twist, a veil, a way to say,
What we’re too scared to leave on display.
It’s in the spaces, in-between,
Where we say less than what we mean.
A casual tone, a carefree grin—
A dodge, a wink, a whispered lie,
But all in all, what stays unclear,
Is how much truth slips out of fear.
So next time you joke and brush it past,
With that “just kidding” you threw so fast,
Pause a second, let it be,
What’s hidden under that comedy?
Because humor’s great, we all know this,
But it’s the weight of what we miss.
And maybe, just maybe, if we’re willing—
We’re saying more than “just kidding.”
