Love.

It's just a word.

Do you know me?

That's where love lies.

Not in surf-filled dreams nor scent.

Love is the stage manager,

Romance is the showman.

I want to see how the strings are being pulled:

Where the thought is placed

And acted upon,

Not the acting itself.

Life is the stage, love is only one of the scenes in it. Nicely written Rachel - Well Done!!!

I absolutely loved how you described love as a stage manager and romance as the showman. Such creative writing!

"Love is the stage manager" I love how there are so many ways this can be interpreted! I assumed at first it was simply meaning that love was hard work (but worth it), but if you approach it more cynically it could mean it's bossy or even manipulative. Or maybe I just have an emo streak lol

A beautiful expression and explanation all at once taken to heights. This. Is. Amaze. Zing!!!

Romance is the showman. What a line. This is so true.

  • If you can't be it, act it until you become it. For only in the becoming is love made real. I love this, Rachel.

Oh, such a clever analogy! Love is so much more than a performance and this teases that fact out so precisely and of course poetically! Fantastic challenge entry, Rachel!

This one’s sharp and thoughtful—stripping love down to its bones, past the flashy show to the quiet, steady work behind the scenes. Love as the stage manager? That’s a perspective that lingers.

  • Excellent poem🤗… I especially like: “Love is the stage manager, Romance is the showman. I want to see how the strings are being pulled: Where the thought is placed And acted upon, Not the acting itself.”… well, really… I love the entire poem💖😃!
