A Meditation

Jacob

Conflict, Resolution, Peace:

A three way hourglass,

The way of the world.

Or so Mother said.

Be good, brush your teeth,

Be polite, say your prayers,

Make yourself a chia idol.

Regular blessing will feed rich greens.

No promise made—stack the deck.

Tell a lie or tell a dozen.

Anything to steal a blessing,

Anything to mold some hope.

A thumb slips, potshards crumble,

Prosperous life poised for disaster.

Facing an enemy, confronting a stranger—

Crisis: a bitter, hoar-frost struggle.

Pinned men—one broken, one given.

The gentle agony of a broken life

Matches metered pain of a broken hip.

No sweat bough but sweat of God

No prayer to utter but…

“I won’t let go until you bless me.”
