At every doorstep, flaming fiends arrayed
Grimaces of candlelight on display
Those orange orbs with stretched grins, carved out by blades
Their thick skin sawed through, pieces cut away.
Insides gutted out by blunt spoons scraping
Removing glops of pulp until hollow
The jagged mouths, the diamond eyes gaping
Grotesque features gleam with an eerie glow
Shining spectacles of flickering light.
The magic spell they cast, its power fleets.
Jack o’lanterns sparkle for just one night
For by dawn they'll be scattered in the streets.
If only your crimes could be forgotten
Just as suddenly as a smashed pumpkin.

Well-wrought! My favorite holiday. I have fond memories of the pumpkin patch, both as a little and a big kid with kids of my own!
well done, so captivating and pure👌
The imagery in this DK.... just breath taking, eery and so captivating!! Simply gargeous work here!!
"Grotesque features gleam with an eerie glow"- lovely line, but this is stuffed full of great horror/light imagery throughout. Perfect for spooky season!
What delightful imagery in this one! Striking!
well that ending brought me crashing back to earth..
A damning denouement!
Whoaaaa, those last 2 lines hit so hard! Loved your poem!
Great descriptive imagery, I love glops of pulp especially.
What a visceral masterpiece, DK. Agree with Cathy! Pumpkin vivisection! Ewww!
For the first time, I actually feel bad for pumpkins. Those last two lines, however, make me feel this is a lot deeper than it seems. Well done.
Those poor pumpkins!
Outstanding! Perfect poem for the spooky season. Well done, D.K.!
