Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow

A Frosted Verse entry

December nears, the First Frosy warns winter is not far

(Homeless families shiver, huddled in tent or car)

Sip hot drinks and feast in front of a fire

(Others can but dream, their situation dire…)

Laugh and sing carols, renounce in friends and family near

(Another weeps at shrine or graveside, their loved ones far from here)

Call out “Peace on Earth and goodwill to all men!”

(Elsewhere, war rages, though we said “Never Again”)

As the year comes to an end, count your blessings as they are

(some are not so lucky, a year saw them fall far)

Look around you this season, do you see others in need of care?

(A new year beckons, perhaps their fortune will turn to the fair)
