Its better not to know

Ignorance is Bliss

By RastaFaraiPublished 6 years ago 2 min read

Ignorance is bliss, there couldn't be a truer truth,

Had I not known the comforts of modern living, the village existence I face now surely wouldn't be so hard,

Television, WiFi, 24/7 communication, linked to the world at all times, nowadays I'm grateful for at least two hours of electricity a day, even if it comes at two hours past midnight,

I'll wake up to charge my mobile, iron some clothes and cook the morning meal, and for the other meal well who knew making a fire and cooking slob over it would become second nature?

I used to have gym memberships that I would hardly use, you know that new years resolution to lose weight or learn a cool new martial art,

What they don't tell you is the most effective way to lose weight is to be stressed and subsequently (or simultaneously) broke,

You can lose 20 kilos in two months and then maintain that new weight by simply not having access to food, that's right, try one meal a day or having days were you don't eat entirely. This is only effective however, if its not optional,

Debit cards, credit cards, mobile money and investments, ah the joys of having cash in your wallet...actually the joys of having a wallet period,

In this village of ours any form of money is excessively hard to come by, its gotten to the point where others opt to be thieves or prostitutes just to get money to survive, the rest of us if you can, you turn to subsistence farming,

That's right, grow your own food and maybe barter the extras for clothes and things you need....but then what if it doesn't rain? No running water remember and the few water reservoirs are almost depleted,

But if you didn't know any better you'd probably just get on with it....I wish I had taken the blue pill of ignorance but alas I will forever be burdened with the knowledge that things can be and in fact should be better.

And so the question that remains is....what will I do with all this burdensome knowledge, how will it serve me in this village existence?
