It Was Only Yesterday

A poem and a Roy Orbison song

By Rasma RaistersPublished 6 months ago 1 min read

It was only yesterday,

when the world was new,

when every color did shine.

Only yesterday,

when every love song,

brought a silver tear

and rainbows arched across the sky.

Only yesterday,

when you were mine,

memories that shimmer and shine,

nothing is the same,

since yesterday could not catch up to today.

Life goes on,

days of laughter and song,

isn’t it funny that way?

Time keeps slipping away,

things change

and love can even fade away.

Soon there are no more words to say,

a world turned topsy- turvy,

smiles become frowns

and it rains every day.

Dark clouds,

hiding the sun,

dark thoughts,

the heart wanting to fly,

to seek the love –

it misses every day.

In dreams,

the words of love still whisper,

while love songs play,

dancing beneath the moon so bright,

until the rosy glow of dawn.

Only yesterday,

things were all right,

the sun was in the sky

and soft breezes were blowing.

If it could only be,

that love and life don’t fade away,

that together we could stay,

until the end of our days,

stepping into paradise just you and me.

Only yesterday,

words of love would flow,

life so mellow and slow,

always they’ll remain in my memory,

because it was –

only yesterday…

I love Roy Orbison and I love how your poem fits perfectly with his song.
