It's not Cricket
I hear you snickering...!
There it is,
that teensy chirp
I’ll find you yet
you little twerp!
Oh, please excuse me,
I just burped.
~
I think a cricket,
(maybe not),
has trapped itself
inside this house.
I hear you scurry?
Not a mouse!
~
I’ve hunted here,
I’ve searched o’er there,
behind the fridge
& through the air,
swatting nothing,
it’s not fair!
~
Once more I hear it,
to my left.
Or was that right?
I feel bereft!
I’ve grabbed the broom.
I’ve jabbed, I’ve swept.
~
Yet nothing meets
my steady gaze.
I’ve hunted now
for many days.
You taunt & tease,
my nerves are frayed!
~
And still I hear
your little song,
so close yet distant
all day long
& through the night!
It’s just so wrong!
~
Your little game
of hide & seek
has made this day
seem like a week.
You’ve set me in
a fit of pique.
~
And so I must
bid you adieu,
at least an hour
(make that two),
until I’ve made it
past this stew.
~
So freely sing,
you little fiend,
from you some wisdom
I shall glean
& hunt no more
your sound unseen.
~
Which begs the age-old question:
Does a cricket continue to chirp in a house when there is no one there for it to annoy?

This made me smile! Two months late, but smiling nonetheless. Tree frogs back home are even tinier but they pack a wallop of a note. Call anyone in Bermuda at night and you'll hear them chirping in the background OUTSIDE the house.
Haha. Randy, this is fantastic. Good luck.
r-bud - Good to hear your Vocal-Voice back Chirping @ us..! Thought I Had one 🦗 chirping under the bonnet of my car 🚙 - he caused major damage! j-bud.in.l.a.
One winter we had a cricket trap in the basement, he kept me up most of the night. I can relate to your poem. Hope you are feeling better these days besides thr cricket disturbance. 😊
I think it still would, hahahahhaha. Loved your poem!
That was fun. I remember years and years ago we got a cricket infestation and they just showed no fear of humans when they got in teh house
