It All Circles Back

Nothing changes

The night screams of silence in a world of pain,

A chest of regret lives deep within her bosom, percolating on high,

Questioning decisions brought about by pressure,

A change of heart, a selfish push, a degree of destruction in a bedded lie.

******

A rollercoaster ride of soft loving words turned sour,

Accusations rained upon her downtrodden head,

Heartbeats hiccup on a staccato of torment,

With the arrival of those words forever held in dread.

******

Moisture expels in a whoosh of heartbreak,

How, what, why?

Yesterday, a day dawned with surprise,

Turning a smile into a heart wrenching cry.

******

The sun shines, highlighting the fear that’s taken hold,

Where acceptance is forced upon her sagging shoulders; hellbent,

Where the defence proves that seasons don’t change,

And revenge is lying in the shadows, just waiting to be spent.

******

No amount of wishes, dreams or hope can be exchanged for this currency,

The position is what it is, the stage was set decades ago,

The grand finale, a door closing on a cold, dark heart,

While she sits praying, wishing it wasn’t so.

******

There’s no amount of words that can cover the underlying deceptions,

Exposure and the act of calling out, the catalyst of devastation,

Worlds blown apart as the truth finally sees the light,

Leaving behind a rippling puddle of tragic desolation.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

Oof, that’s some deep heartbreak wrapped up in poetic vibes! All that regret, turmoil, and "soft words turned sour" is like the emotional version of a mic drop. You nailed the messy feelings of love, loss, and devastation. Heavy stuff, but so well-written it hits right in the feels!✨🌺
