The Downward Spiral

The death knell

The heart weighs heavy within her chest,

As the circle of life spins full throttle on rewind,

The same issues slamming through her defences,

Leaving her ability to heal far behind.

******

Detrimental to the future, creating a no go zone,

Run Forest run — she knows you’re not Forest but it’s second nature for you to run,

Leaving her to feel alone, to relive the final death coo,

Hidden in that which is lacking, letting it all come undone.

******

Let’s reinvent the small talk, which she hates by the way,

Keeping it superficial and downright boring,

Playing it safe — losing the end sight,

Time wasting, how is she scoring?

******

She can see the darkness racing towards you,

Out run it? Heck, you’re heading for a full on collision,

If the trail is not reset; yeah well!

There’s very little time left for revision.

******

What a waste, destroyed by the lack of emotional intelligence,

Once again she should add,

Treading water, close to drowning,

Dissolution, how terribly sad.

******

All talk, very little action,

Drama displayed in an effort to misdirect,

Fairytales told with such determination,

Made up on the spot, best effort to deflect.

******

The pity party loses its slumber,

The reaction not naturally forthcoming,

Over the top and then tipped with silence,

And once again she’s witnessing you running.

*******

The communication is screaming within its silence,

Begging to be the importance of it all,

Talk it through, scrabble until its death,

But no, let’s put pride before the soul destroying fall.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
