Island of Misfit Toys
A Poem

Welcome to our Island of Misfit Toys
We were once happy little girls and boys
With all our wishes and joys
But now we’ve grown
With children of our own
Trying to build our home
The one we never had
With our mom and dad
Recovering from the tragedy
Of overcoming our family
It wasn’t all bad you see
There were happy times too
But they always seem so far and in between
And much too few
To erase the pain
The scars
Of you wanting to be near
But staying far
So here we are
On the boat
To our Island of Misfit Toys we row
With our new family and friends in tow
To a place where we are free
To be happy with our adopted family

The nostalgia here is so palpable. Deep thoughts of a bygone era, yet finding comfort in new beginnings hopefully.
Thank you for crafting this excellent poem. 💖
Beautifully expressed!!! Loved it!!!❤️❤️💕
Thank you for capturing the feeling of finding your own family and niche as an adult. It IS an effort to row, with all of your life in tow, and find that place where you fit in and are at peace.
The family to which we are born vs. the family we choose. We always hope that both are good & share some members, but when the former is not, may the latter be our salvation.
Oh this is great! Love the rhymes, and love the concept!
