Perhaps he only seeks short-term happiness and isn't interested in working towards long-term happiness. It might also be that we expect too much happiness and overlook our fundamental incompatibilities.

You should respect his decision. This isn't solely your love; it's also his love and his life. He, too, wants to achieve what he desires in his relationships. If he doesn't see you as a source of happiness, let him go.

Cherish every encounter, and also respect the other person's final decision to separate. Love well, and separate well. You came to know each other through love, so in the end, strive to separate with love.
