Iridescence

A poem of resilience and understated beauty

She is iridescent in a world made of glass.

Her soul refracts rainbows in the sunlight,

revealing a spectrum of colours and quirks.

She does not crack, nor

does she bend like a willow.

She is not sea glass

tumbled and worn down by the constant waves of grief;

She is shaped by tragedy and pressure.

Pressure that bears a diamond -

a complex and precious result of unbearable pressure.

A little rough around the edges,

She should be cold and unyielding, but she

Warms to those who share warmth,

To those who do not dull her shine.

She is eternal, and

Shatters barriers with pinpointed, razor sharp wit.

She is a diamond in a world of glass shards,

At first glance like the others,

frozen and colourless.

But once the sun shines, she takes centre stage;

She is a heavenly kaleidoscope of iridescence

and simply

Breathtaking.
