Invidia

A Sonnet

Given the alternatives, why that one?

The others are more handsome and robust

More generously blessed by the fat sun;

Soon enough, all will be reduced to dust

Save for that one, which your shining smile touched

How did it capture your judicious eye?

Insensate, unknowing, now warmly clutched

Its idiot luck does reason defy!

So much is concealed by its scarlet skin

Shameful rot hidden by royal splendor

It may be the product of loathsome sin

Its genes modified by the vile vendor!

In no time, it will be inside of you

While I, ripe with envy, vanish from view

Sonnet

    This was sort of creepy whilst also being philosophical. I think it's the voyeurism combined with the selection of the fruit - the fecundity of and the concentration on picking a fruit juxtaposed with someone watching. It's not intimate but it is personal.

  • Oooo, I loved the intensity of this! So well done!
