I think I finally understand it.

Why the past makes us so melancholy.

It’s the joy and innocence- felt as kids,

this grown up world is so mean and ugly.

🤔🌍

We miss jumping ropes, holding hands with friends,

just time to play, no worries, no demands.

Home made cookies, with fresh made lemonade,

playing hopscotch, freeze tag and kick the cans.

I never gave a thought about your face,

or understood about color or race.

So, we find ourselves longing for release,

crave better times, when what we knew was peace

Oh, the innocent eyes and ears of youth,

come, so you see me and I see you too
