Injustice Against Women
What I have seen in the orthodox society

I am shocked by the crimes of society,
against women,
They dare to call her weak—
a blatant lie.
The roller coater of pregnancy
only those who go through,
will truly understand.
It culminates in birth,
never easy,
an experience of near death.
In fact, I endured it,
and despite getting,
the best medical care.
I have to say:
How can this be so savage,
in this modern era?
Natural birth is about
long hours of labor,
pushing in a fragile body,
the body becomes,
an epitome of tenacity.
Caesarean surgery, is about
getting sedated,
having your insides pushed aside
to get the baby out—
stitching it all back up
as it a frayed doll.
For the sake of love,
and a family,
we agree to this hell.
And see the irony,
we are labeled weak!
Hypocrites are,
but mentally sick.
Orthodox society,
puts bangles and veils,
vermilion and anklets—
euphemisms for shackles—
and never lets women choose
if they want to be parents,
or when they want it.
always controlled.
I've seen women
estranged
because they couldn’t conceive.
I've seen women
live with indignity,
watching their husband,
take mistresses
because they "failed"
to bear sons.
I've seen women
forced to bring property,
because they made the "mistake"
of birthing girls.
My heart bleeds
to see such injustice,
such overt vices.
So I tell my daughter:
Hell is crowded
All those who hurt women
will be crammed there.
