INFINITY
Poem by Faithe Haltte

I twist and turn, unable to sleep
I lay upwards, close my eyes and think
My empty mind speaks in silence
Unable to breathe steadily as I try to sleep
I feel something occurring
Maybe the stars turning, my world evolving
Coming closer and closer
The winds outside shatter my doors open
As I step outside my balcony, I see the never unseen
A butterfly rests on my nose and speaks
“I will teach you a lesson but, in exchange you will gift me one
tear”
Butter yellow becomes my sky
She twirls
She twirls
Watching her wings dance
She says, “Aim high, don’t let yourself stay behind”
And a tear I gave to her in kind
I’m beginning to wonder if this is a dream
Reality now seems abstract, although, I feel more content when she
makes eye contact
She says: “Come fly with me”
And as I float higher her hug caves in
Feeling the shift, she pushed me in
An exchange of our smiles became the last I’d see from her
“Bye, bye” …the butterfly sighs
As quickly as I blink, from a butterfly to an owl
My eyes collide and intertwine
It’s feathers glowing in colors I’ve never seen trance me to feel
Unconditional love
It’s eyes beaming with the intensity of a white star
I can’t remember ever seeing a face so sure of the truth
I began to weep at their sight, overwhelmed by all of their might
I wished to know all of their wrongs and rights
The Owl speaks… “Listen”
Unsure of how to respect an angel, I nod
They began by saying
“You mustn’t be as quick to run away, to live in the moment makes
it better to stay”
Tears fell and shattered the ground
Hands armored against the impact, no wounds yet to be found
I had to ask them if I had the wrong perspective
They said: “no, just trust your own, make sure not to doubt it
anymore”
I began to understand why this was all happening
This is what I’ve always wanted,
I’ve asked and asked
The last words they said to me were…
“On your journey you must learn to observe”
As the owl flies away, so did I
Is this the journey they referred to?
Floating through the universe seems calmer than it’s made to
believe
I hear a dragon’s roar; I look down to the depths of space and
watch it glide towards me
“You reflect me, I reflect you
We are each other, we are true”
I kept my silence while feeling honored to at least be dreaming
about them
“Why is it so hard to believe you are here? Believe in what you see.
I will teach you to dominate your existence”
My thoughts fade and become wider and lighter
My body stretches and I become
Asleep and faded into the colors and fractions of space and time
My mind expanded to feel every corner of existence
I could still hear the dragon, “Forever on your side I will be”
I couldn’t believe, the mysteries that laid asleep are being awaken
by my command
One hour ago, I could not imagine this would happen
A butterfly came to my rescue
She turned to the void, leaving an ever-changing impact on my
seasons
The owl whom became my second hand
Without them I would not have realized my greatest potential
And a dragon whom I am now a part of,
We forever live within and amongst each other
We are part of the ever-occurring infinity which surrounds.
