Infected

by daydreams

By Emily McGuffPublished 5 months ago 1 min read

I - can’t - breathe

Bitterness like poison gas

Slip on the mask

That fits like a skull

Clattering and shattering my skin

-

Rain strikes me - icicles on my bones

Cracking me open.

Life has me pinned down so long

I Don’t remember what it’s like to stand up.

-

Do you remember the suspended seconds?

Those moments leading up to the almost kiss

That never happened and never will

But somewhere it did -

Within me.

Another time

Another us

-

I will never stop loving you -

Despite the years and spaces,

The breaths and places,

The notes and the choices that pull us further

-

My thoughts infect me,

Colonize me.

The daydreams breed within me

Until they are memories of their own making

-

We all go off the cliff sometimes.

Sometimes I leap.
