Inching Towards the Tundra
When it gets cold, it freezes
The coldness in my heart.
It gives me chills.
How did I get here?
I was always spreading warmth
Tried to be the bright sunshine
In the lives of others
Even though I was facing ...
Dark days of my own.
I tried to give warmth
To those who were down
Those who were destitude
But...
I am no saint.
A smile in return.
A thank you.
A "hey, how are YOU doing?"
Was all I expected in return.
It feels like I asked for too much.
I never got it.
I know many of us don't.
Many of us who don't,
We turn cold.
Our hearts become ROCK SOLID.
Unable to care
This is the worse that we can do...
Who was it who said
That the opposite of love
Isn't hate.
It's indifference.
And that's how I feel right about now
As you all while away
Busy in your own lives
That I helped to grow
But like yeast
That helps rise
You think of me as an infection
And threw me away
Now I fall
Because my own power
Is gone.
Brr.

"Busy in your own lives That I helped to grow But like yeast That helps rise You think of me as an infection And threw me away" Gosh those lines hit me so hard because I've found myself in that situation sooo many times! And guess what? I never learn! I try to go cold but the ice melts so fast and yet again I'll be the yeast to either the same person or someone else. I'm so sorry you're experiencing this as well 🥺 Sending you lots of love and hugs ❤️
Woah, the gradual capitulation to apathy is captured so strongly in this! And that last line! Brr, indeed! Well done, Manisha!
