In These New Times

That's how it's always been

--the truth-tellers diminished.

For countless years they've been cast out

and shunned.

That's how the kings have ruled

--the one who chastised Meister Eckhart,

Briget, Miriam.

That's how it's always been

--the ones who question stories

marred and cursed.

"There are no germs," "The Sun

revolves around the Earth,"

We're not exempt from patterns

of the past ruling the day.

So many plugged their ears to truth

about the sun. We cannot say

what truths might go unheard

in these new times.

We're at the crossroads now.

We can with open minds wonder.

Or we can cling to what

we've always thought was ironclad

and true. We can remind ourselves

that not everything is fully known,

or we can keep the furniture

glued to the floor.
