In the Wake of Flames
Feeling sad for America and the fires that are at rage

In the Wake of Flames
In the aftermath of flames,
a silence so deep,
where laughter once echoed,
now shadows creep.
Homes consumed by fire,
dreams turned to dust,
as families face heartache,
a burden unjust.
The air hangs heavy,
with remnants of pain,
every flicker of flame,
leaving a haunting refrain.
The land bears witness,
to all that is lost,
in the depths of sorrow,
hearts bear the cost.
Faces caught in images,
the warmth long since gone,
each memory fleeting,
like the light before dawn.
Yet the void feels profound,
an aching hollow space,
where love once thrived,
now lost without trace.
In the stillness,
whispers of loss fill the air,
holding tightly to stories,
the weight that is there.
For though the fires rage,
and the ashes fall,
the love felt by many,
will endure through it all.
Amidst all this anguish,
through darkness and strife,
the spirit of those lost,
remains part of their life.
And though the flames ravage,
their memory stays,
a light in the shadows,
through all of our days.

Such a great empathetic poem, Marie! Saddens me that many people still don’t understand these fires are directly related to climate change.
