In the Beginning

A Poem

By Anna HollandPublished 8 years ago 1 min read

In the beginning, two creatures lived side by side. The goddess was life and the god was power. They were perfect.

Each day, she looked upon his face and bathed in his warmth. She twisted and grew in every direction just to touch him. He held her up as if she weighed nothing. He gave her the strength and comfort she needed.

At night, she stared into his thousand eyes as he tickled her skin with his breath. They shared everything. When he cried, the goddess made pools with his tears. When she screamed, the god made music surround them both.

Together they created the unimaginable. He decorated her body with color and life. She gave him new eyes, only greater and brighter.

They formed new beings, much smaller than themselves. The goddess fed her children and the god sheltered them. The children wanted for nothing.

But these beings soon changed. As years grew on, the god and goddess slowly became weak. The children abused their mother. They beat her and marked her. Their father became no more than an experiment to explore.

The children lit their worlds with false warmth. The goddess could no longer see her god’s eyes. Unlike the origins, the children were imperfect.
