Supposedly when you're dying

Your life flashes before your eyes

But which life?

The life that has been lived,

Or the life that was lying ahead?

Would I remember my mom?

Making fudge brownies on an August afternoon after school

Changing into her neon 70s pattern bikini before we go to the pool?

Would I remember my dad?

All of those long semi rides to haul cattle or crops?

Anytime he would practice softball with me

Yelling at all my sport coaches to let me play?

But what about the life that was ahead of me?

Would I meet you there?

How many times would we drive each other crazy?

Cooking dinner together

Would you get bored if I wanted to spend every sunrise and sunset with you?

Would I actually be happy then?

Even as I'm slipping into my slumber of death

Would I find bliss in your arms?
