In and Out of Love
In and out of love I go,
but this time it felt real
I searched, I found—he answered
the ache I couldn’t conceal
For a while, it was forever,
or so it seemed to be.
Now heartbroken, I whisper,
The fool was me.
So in and out of love I drift again,
Still gullible in the hands of men
I told my self I would take it slow,
yet hearts don’t listen when they glow.
He swore he’d stay, then slipped away
Like every sweet-tongued lie they say
I bite my tongue, pretending I am tough
Tells friends and mirrors “I’ve had enough”
it’s late at night, when silence bites
I dream in colours edged with delights.
I still rise again, like women do
Brush off the ash, step into new
But love won’t come with open trust
It now must earn what once was just
So in and out of love again, this time it might be real
No more pain, no more wounds left to heal.
