Impermanent Diamonds
A Life Lesson, Courtesy of November
A silent, diamond-studded world
Greets my eyes with the dawn.
The deep, November morning chill
Worked magic on the lawn.
~
The fences, too, are glittering.
The leaves on every tree.
A world of wondrous, sparkling light
Dances, for all to see.
~
And though the frost dooms, with its touch,
Each flower, leaf and fern,
Its brilliance on this crisp, new day
Is given, in return.
~
Perhaps, to witness this exchange
Is to learn life moves on
And beauty is ephemeral
And like the frost, soon gone.
~
The very sun that sparkles now
Upon the frigid rime
Will cause its imminent demise.
Each wonder has its time.
~
So, as the diamonds fade from view,
I welcome the new day.
And bid the frost a fond farewell,
Grateful for the display.
