immortality

another tragedy

You can write a poem

To him each night

Formulate a daydream

For him each window you gaze out

You can immortalise him

In a painting of words and

A chorus of laments

You can gaze at him

Like a constellation of stars

Mark out his flaws

Like charting a map

You can, of course, love him

But that doesn’t mean you can have him

(When have you ever held the things you love?)

So true- beautifully heartbreaking- loved it!

Beautiful and sad. Loved the progression from each stanza to the next of different ways to be consumed with someone without actually having them

  • Beautifully written… as an optimist, surely there have been many times the last line has been true!🤔🙃

  • Now that is the story of my life. Loved your poem!

Love that poignant question, Poppy. Wish I had the answer to that! A thoughtful and well-written poem.

Oh damn Poppy!!! That was brilliant! Incredible! Poignant! And bone deeply tragic. Oh we’ve all been there. This is my new favourite poem you’ve ever written!
