Ignorance

And Bystanders

So here is the blood filling my mouth

I screamed and screamed in all the ways you did not hear

Let them cut out my tongue

Every day for years

Now will you try to understand?

Can’t you see?

Every silence was a cry for help but you weren’t listening

Acrostic

Heavy and visceral and perfectly fitting the photo! This is a twisted idea of silence, but a relevant one too.

Such pleading and pain! Powerfully wrought, Poppy!

Well-wrought! This is why some speak up, even when it will not benefit them directly, and conversely, to always seek a direct benefit to or protection of the self is what makes others complicit in the silence, and ultimately, the greater brutality and atrocity.

That last line - the accusation. So angry and direct. I feel my gut curl in as I read it.

    Brilliantly done.

  • Extremely potent acrostic.

What a powerful poem. Too often we don't listen or tend to smooth over those pleas for help with silly excuses.
