If You Had Stayed
A Poem of Love, Loss, and the Echoes of Time

If you had stayed a little longer,
would the stars still shine the same?
Would the nights feel a little softer,
whispering gently with your name?
The chair you loved still sits in place,
but now it only holds the air.
The echoes of your laughter fade,
like fleeting footsteps on the stairs.
I trace the dust on windowpanes,
as if to find your fingerprints.
But time is cruel—it takes, it stains,
and leaves behind the faintest hints.
If you had stayed, would dawn still break
with golden light upon my skin?
Or would it hush, too shy to wake,
afraid to face what could have been?
I talk to silence now instead,
to shadows cast upon the wall.
If you had stayed—oh, if you had—
would love have saved us after all?
Did this resonate with you? Let me know if you’d like another. ❤️
