If Our Records Do Not Get Along

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 3 months ago 1 min read

{Verse]

You love jazz and I love punk

You sip wine while I slam funk

You’re all smooth

I’m all grit

We don’t even match one bit

[Prechorus]

You hum soft ballads in the shower

I blast my tunes at full power

[Chorus]

If our records don’t get along

We won’t last

We won’t be strong

No harmony

No perfect song

If our records don’t get along

[Verse 2]

You say vinyl

I say stream

Your Mozart ruins my dream

You like a choir

I like a scream

This duet’s ripping at the seam

[Prechorus]

Your slow waltz steps on my beat

I’m two-step wild

You’re off your feet

[Chorus]

If our records don’t get along

We’re just spinning the needle wrong

No rhythm here

Just clashing throngs

If our records don’t get along

omg!!!! this reminds me of my husband and me. well, a bit on the weird side. he really has no interest in music while I love classical, old rock n roll, country, and jazz. (yeah, my mom raised me to enjoy all sorts of music) but I draw the line on rap. that's poetry, not music (my opinion). I laughed when I read your poem; it fits my husband and me so well. thank you for brightening my day
