If I Were Jonah…

If I were Jonah,

then I would have used the whale tongue as a trampoline,

it’s not like I would have been seen.

If I were Jonah,

then maybe, I would have swung on the whale’s uvula,

like a tree in the wind or a betula.

If I were Jonah,

then I’d have learned to speak whale talk,

and I’d have asked the whale if his jaw had a key and lock.

If I were Jonah,

In the belly, I would have held my nose,

preaching to Nineveh, likely, wouldn’t have been what I would have chosen.

If I were Jonah,

well, I’d have quite a laugh with God,

because after that experience, through life, I’d never slowly obey and plod.
