Ice Tendrils

~ A Poem

Ice tendrils

Cling to the window

Frozen & barren

Isolation

Pulls her deeper

Into the darkness

Little fingers

Trace the ice

Curious

Alive

Her heart skips

Dreaming

Of other worlds

Beyond

The frozen wasteland

She calls home

The floorboard creeks

Silently she turns

His voice echoes

Surrounding her

Laughing

“Child, come.

This is no place

To weave your dreams.”

Climbing into his arms

She keeps her eyes

On the snow-covered land

Whispering

Her voice echoes

Down the hall

“Til the morrow.

I shall slay the dragon.”

Settled down under the covers

A kiss upon her forehead

Her father asks,

“Who shall you be tonight?”

Wide-eyed,

She exclaims,

“A great warrior!

I will slay the ice dragon!

Tomorrow, the sun will shine.”

With a chuckle, he leaves

Her to her imagination

Closing the door

He whispers,

“May your dreams come true.”
