Ice Cream Soup

The power of love.

By L. LewisPublished 3 years ago Updated 3 years ago 1 min read

I take out

A pint of cookie dough

Relaxation.

My phone rings

A welcome call

Connection.

You sound good

Like the man I know

Kindness.

I scoop scoops

While you share

Memories.

You remind me

About stadium seats

Generosity.

We get lost

Meandering roads

Conversation.

You tell me

I sound like her

Comfort.

I tell you

You sound like him

Family.

Our presence soothes

Precious and fleeting

Love.

I ask myself

How to hold onto you

Life.

Your voice quiets

Ready for rest

Departure.

We hang up

A promise for more later

Faith.

I sit smiling

Slowly eating

Ice cream soup.
