I've Always Wondered Why You Love Me
A Love Poem to my Dog

Did you love me when we first met, and you puked in the car? And later that day when I laid with you on the bathroom floor, when you were scared and confused?
Did you love me when I woke up early to let you outside, but you peed on the floor?
And when I sat with you outside, watching videos while I waited for you to walk?
Do you love that I let you cuddle with me on the couch and on my bed?
You’re too tall to be a lap dog, but that doesn’t stop you.
Do you love my singing voice? you’re always excited when I dance around the kitchen, and hum whatever's on my radio.
You seem to love my company, as you always default to my bedroom, and sit on my carpet or your bean bag and rest while I play videogames. My bedroom has always been your safe space when you’re scared.
And you’ve never ripped a single thing. You just like to chew on them a little, and walk around with it in your mouth like it was your prize.
I feel like you can read me, because you’ve always been there, laying by my bed when I’m crying into my pillow or can’t fall asleep. And when I’m happy, you’ll look up at me with big black eyes, almost invisible under your mop-head of black fur, and wag your tail as if to say “I Love You.”
