Garden of Eden

A Little Poem from a Little Garden

Dear Lover,

Remember the time we visited Brighton beach

and we danced along the rocks

while Ginger Roots latest hits played on speaker

You pulled a bouquet of my favourite blue flowers

“I wanna be yours.”

In the Garden of Eden

you sit at a bench dedicated to Keanu Reeves

Sky whimmed skin and frosted translucent hair

A sleepless soul stuck in a dream

Clutching onto a crumpled Minute Maid.

In the Garden of Eden

Ghosts linger between life and death

Spirits haunt flower beds

And memories are fertiliser.

Glowing mushrooms hidden under long willows

Red beetroots plunged into dirt

A lingering thought will set in your mind

and slip away like a leaf

They disappear with every breath

wash away with the ocean

“You wanna be ours?”

In the Garden of Eden

She drains a water can

and recalls a game

played as a child

at a park in September

Against a grandfather she once had

The victory she had

On the black and white board

But her gramps was the true victor

To see her dimpled smile

hear her bell-like laugh.

The memories drain away with the water
