I Talked to A Shadow Today

He Wasn’t the Same

This morning I talked to my older (adopted) brother today, my Mom took him in after he and sister (Becky) lost their birthmother, for the first time since he had a massive stroke and Open Heart Surgery.

(The only reason I clarify the fact that he’s adopted is both my younger and older brother have the same first name.)

Isaiah 53:4–5 NIV

Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. [5] But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

I talked

To a shadow today

Listened as he

Tripped over

Words

Trying to make

Sense of what

He had to say.

Heard the tears

Of frustration

As I assured him

Everything would

Be okay.

~~~~~~
I talked to
A shadow today
The one who
Was once protected me
Now needed protection
From the pain
The struggle.
~~~~~~~

I talked

To a shadow

Today

Remembering

When he’d walk

Me to school

To keep me safe

Now I felt

The need

To keep

Him safe

But when the

Enemy is within

All I know

To do is pray.

~~~~~~
I talked
To a shadow today
And felt a piece
Of my heartbreak
Not knowing
If he’s forever
Changed
Yet still celebrating
The brief conversation
We had today.
