I Swear

A poem about being someone's Plan B

I wrote this poem a long time ago about a friend that I had grown suddenly very close to. We had a strange relationship where everyone (even total strangers who saw us together) told us we'd be the perfect couple, and we cared for each other very much, but romance never came together for us. Not too long after I wrote this poem, I moved across the country, which is something I needed to do for my own sanity and personal growth.

I swear

No matter what I will

Always be your friend

I will always love you

But right now

I can't stay here for you

Try to understand

I'm not your fallback girl

As much as I would love to

Wait for you

You've given me no guarantees

But I can't hate you for that

Just let me go and

Don't give me that sad face

It breaks my heart to

Turn away
