Each color is unique

No matter what you add

A different variation of the

two in which you had

Its the same with you and me

No matter how many times you try it

Combine to blend together

We’re still idiosyncratic

As individual as a snowflake

A fingerprint or a star

No-one is just like you

You’re special the way you are

You can change the way things look

Explore ways to make them better

But the characteristics inside you

show you’re perfectly put together

As a kid my inner color was definitely Red:

I was full of hope and energy and believed everything you said

Could outrun most negativity and covered it with hope.

Yeah when I was a kid my world was pretty dope

Later as a teen that color changed a hue or two

I found it was much easier if I identified with blue -

calmer, apprehensive, you had to earn my trust.

Standing by what you say and do it simply was a must

Then into my 20’s when I should have ruled the game.

I became much closer to the darker shady shades

I became distant with my friends didn’t share much how I was.

My color lost its sharpness,

I had forgotten who I was

As a new mom, red returned.

Not quite as bright, but there were days,

that color boldness pulled me through some questionable haze.

My girls were like the rainbow, I felt every color then.

They reminded me of who I was, deep inside with them

As they grew up, my folks grew old.

My colors morphed again.

Faded, like an item left out too long in the sun.

Dark greens, yellows and purples moved in, still friendly but with warning.

I had better find myself again before I felt like nothing

I’ve struggled through some losses

I’ve been surrounded with great love

I’ve wrestled with life and the deeper meanings of,

my colors and my purpose and that I control this palette.

Influences were meant to enhance mine, not to rule it

If I can give a lesson from the life that I have lived

It would be to take your rainbow back, start painting once again.

Each color has a time and purpose if only for a season.

Don’t let yourself get lost in one for anyone or reason

Because you truly are a masterpiece

The one and only you

Be proud of who you are

And I will be proud of me too
