I See Behind The Famous Mask

I see you, the perfect, awkward, cute, weird, enigmatic you,

As you wake to a perfect morning, blue sky, sun shining, no plans day,

The face you hide behind a rainbow, a masking story,

The heart you bind, locking up tight, shackled behind the smile you display.

I hear the lion’s roar behind your words, the courage, the bravery,

Opining for the plains of yesteryear,

Open ranges, desert sunsets, racing dust clouds,

The light heartedness of the scorching atmosphere.

You can pretend to be that impostor,

Hiding behind your vibrant feathers and shuttered crest,

Soaring through the night skies, gaze pealed,

You think I’m fooled, but I’m well aware you’re self-possessed.

I listen carefully, straining to hear the whispering of your breath,

Your secrets and dreams aspiring in the exhale,

You guard them with your stripes and horns,

Backing away whenever I begin to tell your tale.

The sun shines through your shadow,

Highlighting the very best of your intention,

Pretend that you’ve not been exposed,

Hanging your head in shame if your ideas gain a mention.

***

The pride of your grandest gallop,

Allows you to rush through your fears and nightmares,

Stalking your enemies, hunting them to extinction,

Peeling under their horror, catching them unawares.

***

The clouds filter the regal blood flowing through your veins,

Rivers of life branching around the sphere of your mind,

Bounty in every fastidious giggle, raucous laughter,

Freedom the ultimate gravity of your design.

***

Chains wrapped around your thoughts,

Tussled echoes vibrating through the hours,

Repetitious wants pressing against your beating heart,

Although you’re not fully aware of your powers.

***

Authenticity is the rule of the Universe,

No other binding agreement holds a stance,

Be real, be you, be free, be true,

Unsheathe the perfection I see behind that one glance.
