My Comforts
I scoured my brain for a comfortable place,
And found it was tangled in time -
A collection of moments so pure and sweet,
Moments that will always be mine.
When I tucked you in bed and kissed you goodnight.
When your hand grabbed mine as we walked.
When I gathered you up and swung you high in the air,
And the day you learned how to talk.
When I dabbed your tears from some fearful fall.
When your face beamed at Christmastime.
When you toted your lunchbox that first day of school,
And when you whispered you’d always be mine.
Yes, I scoured my brain for a comfortable place,
And found in that place there was you –
Always there, always mine, always skipping from behind,
In moments where love becomes true.
