I saw a republic collapse today.
Not pretty was its sight.
There were no acts of gallantry,
Or valor on either side.
I saw Lady Justice
Clad in her garments white,
Turn to me all bloody,
Tainted; her face twisting with fright.
I saw a man die today,
It was a... sad but sobering sight.
The flame of his zealotry,
No longer flickering behind his eye.
And in the reflection of the glass
Of those visors at which I stared,
Only sense of duty...
Alas... there was no hatred there.
I saw Blood... lust today,
It was a disgusting sight.
Fraught with hate fraught with glee,
He sat anxious for a fight.
He licked his lips so red they were,
Tongue hung out, waiting for a bite;
He knew today his hunger-- his lust--
Was bound to be satisfied.
I saw freedom die today,
It was a... tearful sight.
Trust and faith both shamelessly shattered,
Despite Ol' Glory's plight.
The Politicians gorging stuffing
Their gluttonous appetites,
As the people like mangy dogs ran swiftly
To lap up their pooling lies.
I saw a sky today,
It was a peaceful sky,
But it looked grey and gloomy....
Like the rain when someone's died.
Indeed someone did die that day,
Though not to a mortal I refer.
I speak of poor Ol' Lady Liberty,
Who was trampled in the stir.

I fell in love with poetry at a very young age and I loved the ideas of personification and putting hidden meanings behind my writing, as well as just inventing fictional worlds and expressing whatever enters my imagination.
