I NEVER REALLY KNEW HIM
Introvert to introvert
++++++++++++++++++++++++
Mom said we were very much alike –
Me and my old dad.
Neither of us perfect,
But he was the one I had.
++
Sometimes he’d sleep a bit too long,
Sometimes I’d read too much;
We were both quiet and shy in our own ways
And not quick to hug or touch.
++
But dad had a smile that lit the room
And his eyes would shine like stars.
He had an imagination
That could take you beyond Mars.
++
We would differ in opinions,
And our words were sometimes loud;
But he was always there when my need arouse
To chase away dark clouds.
++
My world revolved around him;
Now, he’s gone and it’s so sad,
That I never really knew him –
The man I once called Dad.

This poem is so emotional. When I read it, I think about my dad. He was a great dad to me.
