I Never Figured Out
Poem #1 of the "Love & Ever After" Series
By Kate AvinoPublished 8 years ago • 1 min read

I never figured out what it was to be made out of wishes
Until you walked away.
You were my turnarounds,
You were the mystery that was the daunting hours of tomorrow.
You had me with the glow of your cheeks,
Golden and red in the dead of winter.
You had me with that stupid, funny way
you took the pillars of my small mind
And architectured them to heavenly heights.
You took with you the pieces of my nonsense,
Of my blossoming rage and empty promises.
I watch you as you walk away with your backpack of memories.
I watch and
I reach out to you and
I call for you with my run-ons and disconnects.
Nothing I can do or say changes your direction.
But still I watch,
As if the tape of my desire
Sticks harder than the glue of my deliverance.
