i much prefer limes
an old poem I wrote about my initial Lyme's Disease diagnosis.

The first time I tried a lime,
I spit it out.
The tarty taste lingered
and my face scrunched up.
But at least the effects were temporary.
At least it didn't age me
and now I'm 15 in a broken body.
At least I didn't cry out from the pain,
stabbing into my body, with no relief in sight.
At least it didn't drain all my energy
like a vampire latched to my neck.

So now I'm trapped in my mind
thinking about how much of a difference
one letter can make in my life.

Author's Note: I was going through some things and found this piece in a old journal. The timing was crazy since I've been going through a crappy flare-up thanks to a combination of a sinus infection and overexertion.
Don't worry, I'm doing better.
It's so surreal, knowing that over ten years ago, my life changed. Over the years, I've learned a lot and heard of other's experiences, many of whom are worse than mine. I had to change my expectations and learn my limitations time and time again, but I live a pretty good life, even if it wasn't the one I planned for.

Those pieces that capture such raw emotion from our pasts can really create a landmark of where weβve been and where we are now. Glad to hear youβre doing better and that youβve found joy despite the hardships!

Outstanding. I much prefer limes also. I can handle the tartness. Great work, Alexandria.
